Quinn Ewers, Chris Bell injury updates a breath of fresh air after Dolphins’ disastrous week
The Miami Dolphins’ last week was difficult, and that might be a generous way to put it. They struggled mightily against the New York Giants, not only in a 26-3 preseason loss to the club, but also throughout joint practices. With a bad week in the rearview mirror, the franchise received positive injury updates for Quinn Ewers and Chris Bell that at least provide some optimism.
Reports indicate that Ewers returned to practice from his groin injury, while Bell was spotted no longer wearing the no-contact red jersey, according to David Furones of the Sun Sentinel. Both appear to be on track to be available by Week 1 of the new season.
“Dolphins QB Quinn Ewers was back at practice Monday,” Furones reported. “WR Chris Bell was out of the red, no-contact jersey.”
Ewers, who is entering the second year of his career, is expected to serve as the backup quarterback behind Malik Willis. He stepped in for four games last season, starting in three, and recorded 622 passing yards, three touchdowns, and three interceptions while completing 66.3% of his pass attempts.
While it’s nice to see the former Texas Longhorns star back in action, Dolphins fans are likely more excited to see Chris Bell recovering from a torn ACL he suffered in his final year at Louisville. Miami’s third-round pick in the 2026 NFL Draft finished his final year in college with 72 receptions, 917 yards and six touchdowns, all of which are career highs, before he suffered the knee injury.
Both Ewers and Bell will have a chance to participate in the Dolphins’ final preseason game. The club is scheduled to face off against the Atlanta Falcons on August 28 before the regular season officially begins.
