Phillies’ Kyle Schwarber makes franchise history with 30th homer of season

The Philadelphia Phillies are in awe of what Kyle Schwarber is doing, and so are their fans. Schwarber blasted his 30th home run of the season on Sunday and made franchise history.

“Kyle Schwarber reached 30 home runs in the Phillies’ 84th game, the fewest team games to 30 homers in franchise history,” MLB’s Sarah Langs posted to X, formerly Twitter.

Schwarber hit the moonshot in a game on Sunday against the struggling New York Mets. He hit a two-run blast that put Philadelphia ahead in the game’s seventh inning.

Schwarber has been one of the leaders of this Phillies team the last few years. Philadelphia has been battling an up-and-down campaign, as Rob Thomson was fired following a poor start.

Thomson was replaced by Don Mattingly, who has the team back in contention for a postseason berth. Heading into Sunday, Philadelphia is second in the National League East. The Phillies hold a 46-37 record on the campaign.

Schwarber’s hitting has certainly been a reason why the team is doing so well. He leads Major League Baseball in home runs this season. He also seems to be having a great time doing it.

“He was absolutely fired up after crossing home plate. Let out a few “LFGs” to his teammates,” Phillies reporter Luke Arcaini posted to X, formerly Twitter, on Sunday after Schwarber’s two-run blast.

The Phillies have reached the postseason the last few years, but not been able to advance into the World Series. Time will tell if Schwarber and company can finally get that job done and return to the Fall Classic this season.

Philadelphia and New York continue playing at time of writing on Sunday.
