Phillies’ Cristopher Sanchez’s dominance gets honest truth bomb from ex-player

While the 2026 MLB season hasn’t exactly gone as planned for the Philadelphia Phillies, arguably the brightest point of their up-and-down campaign has been the sheer dominance of ace pitcher Cristopher Sanchez.

Sitting pretty with a 6-2 record with a 1.47 ERA, Sanchez hasn’t allowed a hit in almost 45 innings, setting up for some history-making opportunities over the next few weeks, as Trevot Plouffe broke down on Talkin’ Baseball.

“It’s 44 and two-thirds innings scoreless in a row. We’re like entering legendary status here if he gets up into that top-3 these names that we have here single-season streak in the live-ball era,” Plouffe said. “So, since 1920, it’s Orel Hershiser’s 59 innings pitch. He took over for Don Drysdale, who had 58 innings pitched, and then the guy after that is Bob Gibson at 47. So if Chris Sanchez can go out there and throw two and a third scoreless. His next outing, he’ll tie Bob Gibson if you can get into that top-3, that’s something, man. That’s rare wherever Sanchez lands this thing. It’s already in special territory. It’s the seventh-longest scoreless streak ever. There’s only one in the 2000s, and that’s cranky, so like very special stuff happening with him right now.”

With his next start slated to come against the San Diego Padres at Petco Park, Sanchez will have to see if he can keep his streak alive against Manny Machado, a struggling Fernando Tatis Jr., and his old teammate Nick Castellanos. Considering the caliber of competition he’s dominated so far, it’s hard to bet against the Cy Young favorite.
