Pat McAfee Show takes Boston-Pittsburgh Zoo Gorilla trade a little too seriously

Anyone who pays attention to Pat McAfee knows that anything and everything goes. Essentially, he weighs in on a wide range of topics at the intersection of sports, entertainment, politics, etc., on The Pat McAfee Show on ESPN.

Sometimes sound, sometimes mundane, sometimes bizarre. The latter of which applies to his fixation on a current situation involving two male Gorillas at two different zoos.

On his show, McAfee and his co-host A.J. Hawk broke big news that Frankie from the Pittsburgh Zoo and Aquarium will head to the Boston Franklin’s Zoo in exchange for Little Joe. Something that NFL insider Ian Rapoport finds unnecessarily intense.

“Wow. Did not realize there was also an ape to be named later included” Rapoport posted on X, formerly Twitter.

Overall, McAfee and team decided to apply sports trading analytics to a real-life story involving Frankie, a 7-year-old gorilla at the Boston Franklin’s Zoo, and Little Joe at the Pittsburgh Zoo and Aquarium.

Little Joe became a national sensation after escaping the Boston Franklin’s Zoo in 2003. He made his way through neighborhoods and had to be tranquilized. Afterward, he was transferred to Pittsburgh.

Since 2023, McAfee has been a host at ESPN, where his show began. Before then, he was previously a punter for the Indianapolis Colts from 2009 to 2016. Along the way, McAfee became a two-time Pro Bowler (2014, 2016).

Since then, McAfee has emerged as one of the most bombastic and entertaining figures in sports media. He has a unique way of looking at all kinds of stories and making them interesting.
