Panthers news: Brady Tkachuk’s new jersey number revealed
The Florida Panthers acquired forward Brady Tkachuk from the Ottawa Senators Sunday. Ottawa received three first-round draft selections and one second-round selection in the deal, with Florida sending its 2026 first-round pick, the Tampa Bay Lightning’s 2026 first-round pick (previously acquired via the Seattle Kraken), a 2027 second-round pick, and a 2029 first-round pick that is top-10 protected.
Not long after the trade, it was confirmed Monday morning that Tkachuk will wear No. 8 with the Panthers. He had previously worn No. 7 throughout his NHL career, while Dmitry Kulikov currently wears No. 7 for Florida. Keith Tkachuk, his father, wore No. 8 for part of his time with the Atlanta Thrashers. Tkachuk will become the 16th player in Panthers franchise history to wear No. 8, a list that includes Val Bure, Peter Worrell, and Kyle Okposo, with Dallas Eakins having been the first to wear it during the franchise’s second season.
Tkachuk, 26, played 60 games in the 2025-26 season with Ottawa, recording 59 points (22 goals, 37 assists, 59 points). He was tied for third on the team in scoring and ranked second in points per game at .98. He also finished with a 57.6 faceoff win percentage, the best of his career, and accumulated 162 hits, ranking third among Senators players.
Over his eight-season NHL career with Ottawa from 2018-19 to 2025-26, Tkachuk compiled 463 points (213 goals, 250 assists) in 572 games. He served as the Senators captain for five seasons. His career includes seven seasons with at least 20 goals and three consecutive seasons with 30 or more goals from 2021-22 through 2023-24. He also amassed 1,921 hits, 2,202 shots, 62 power-play goals, 28 winning goals, and 821 penalty minutes, all franchise-leading totals during his tenure. He was selected fourth overall in the 2018 NHL Draft by Ottawa.
Internationally, Tkachuk most recently won gold with the United States at the 2026 Olympic Winter Games in Milano Cortina, producing 5 points (3 goals, 2 assists) in 6 games. He also previously earned gold at the 2016 IIHF U18 World Championship and bronze at the 2018 U20 World Junior Championship. At Boston University in 2017-18, he led the team with 23 assists in 40 games.
Brady now joins his brother Matthew Tkachuk in Florida, with two seasons remaining on the seven-year, $57.56 million contract he signed in October 2021.
