Padres’ Nick Castellanos drops brutally honest reflection on time with Phillies
Nick Castellanos played with the Philadelphia Phillies from 2022-2025. He enjoyed some good moments, but his time with the Phillies did not end on the best note. Castellanos was released this past offseason and he ultimately signed with the San Diego Padres. During a recent interview, the veteran reflected on his time with the Phillies, via Annie Heilbrunn.
“The media might have made it seem like it was some big deal and I was like some huge villain, but honestly it never felt like that throughout my communication with the other players,” Castellanos said. “I definitely would consider those guys in my clubhouse, my old clubhouse, my friends. Sure, if some people over there ever had issues with me and the way I went about things, they definitely never told me.”
Castellanos, 34, is now playing for a Padres ball club that is tied with the Los Angeles Dodgers for the lead in the National League West division with a 17-8 record. Meanwhile, the Phillies are 8-17 and currently on a nine-game losing streak.
Castellanos has struggled at the plate in 2026, though. He is set to enter San Diego’s next game against the Arizona Diamondbacks with a slash line of .146/.196/.208 across 16 games played. Castellanos does have a proven track record, however, and he is more than capable of bouncing back.
At the very least, he can be a veteran who provides value off the bench. Castellanos can contribute even more if he gets back on track and begins playing up to his full potential.
