Braves’ Ronald Acuna Jr. trolls Phillies fans with curtain call after HR

The competition between the Atlanta Braves and Philadelphia Phillies continues to smolder. The Braves may still be on top of the NL East by a healthy margin (+3.5 games heading into their Sunday night contest), but with 20 games to go, the Phillies could still very well overtake them for the division title — especially when they’re in the middle of a three-game series this weekend.

In the end, it was the Braves that got the upper hand in game three of that series, winning the rubber match, 5-4, after rallying from a four-run deficit heading into the eighth inning. While it was Austin Riley who struck the decisive blow, hitting an RBI triple in the ninth to give Atlanta the lead for good, they would not have been in that position to begin with had it not been for a three-run home run from Ronald Acuna Jr. in the eighth to tie the game.

Acuna even twisted the knife deeper into the collective gut of the Phillies fanbase, as he gave himself a curtain call after he hit that monstrous clutch home run.

That cheeky smile on Acuna’s face says it all. He may not be back to his MVP form, but he’s an impactful player nonetheless for the Braves, and he shows up in big moments similar to the way he did on Sunday.

The at-bat in which the Braves right fielder hit the three-run shot was not easy whatsoever. He came up against Phillies reliever Alex McFarlane, who throws straight gas. In all seven of McFarlane’s pitches in that at-bat, he threw over 100 miles per hour. He even got Acuna to an 0-2 count, and the Braves star had to foul off two tough pitches to stay alive.

But Acuna got used to the timing of McFarlane’s pitches, and he put the Braves in a position to snag the victory.
