Lakers’ Sandro Mamukelashvili gives Slovenia trip with Luka Doncic honest review

Sandro Mamukelashveli has been enjoying his time with Luka Doncic as the Los Angeles Lakers teammates experience the European nation Slovenia.

Mamukelashveli is preparing for the sixth season of his NBA career, his first with the Lakers. He spent last season with the Toronto Raptors before signing a four-year deal with Los Angeles this offseason.

This paved the way for Mamukelashveli to connect with Doncic, who stands out as the Lakers’ top star. Wanting to develop solid chemistry, Doncic had his new teammate join him on a trip to his home country Slovenia. Safe to say that the big man is enjoying his time in the region.

“First of all, shoutout to Luka. I think the organization was amazing, the way they planned everything,” Mamukelashvili said when he appeared in an interview on the golf course with Deondre Hawkins of ESPN. “They showed us a lot of great places, and Ljubljana is a really, really nice city.”

“Plus, it was great for the new team. It was a bunch of new guys on the team, and you know, all of us being together, it didn’t even feel like it was a lot of new guys.”

Sandro Mamukelashveli looks forward to his new journey with the Lakers. Getting along with Luka Doncic will be vital to the team’s chances of success ahead of the 2026-27 campaign.

Mamukelashveli seeks a key role in the Lakers’ style of play. Last season saw him average 11.2 points, 4.9 rebounds and 1.9 assists per game with the Raptors. In the playoffs, he produced five points and five rebounds per contest.

Los Angeles finished with a 53-29 record this past season, finishing fourth in the Western Conference standings. They took down the Houston Rockets in six games before falling to the Oklahoma City Thunder in a four-game sweep.

The Lakers regrouped in the offseason, departing from LeBron James, Deandre Ayton, Marcus Smart, and Luke Kennard. They replaced them with Walker Kessler, Collin Sexton, Sandro Mamukelashveli, Quentin Grimes, Kevon Looney, and Jaden Hardy.
