Orioles’ Craig Albernaz shares Cade Povich injury update after Marlins game

The Baltimore Orioles were not able to get the victory over the Miami Marlins in the final game of their series, and one of their key players also suffered an injury. Cade Povich was removed from the game after three innings because of left forearm discomfort.

Manager Craig Albernaz offered an update on Povich after the game.

“He had some tricep lateral elbow tightness” Albernaz said. “We’re going to get an MRI on him tomorrow. He said he felt it in the second, and then it really tightened up on him in the third. It’s on the outside of his elbow, so we’ll get some imaging and kind of see where we’re at.”

The hope is that Povich’s injury isn’t too serious and he can return sooner rather than later. The Orioles are already dealing with some injuries to their bullpen, and adding Povich to that fold would not be the best. Yennier Cano came in for Povich and threw two scoreless innings on 23 pitches, and the Marlins were pretty much stabilized until the bottom of the ninth after a throwing error by Coby Mayo.

“The ‘pen did an outstanding job. Canó was awesome coming in the pinch and eating up two innings. Same thing with [Dietrich] Enns, [Keegan] Akin getting out of the [eighth] inning, and [Andrew] Kittredge looked good too. So that was a tough one today,” Albernaz said.

Trevor Rogers is currently dealing with an illness, while Zach Eflin is out for the rest of the season after undergoing Tommy John surgery. Dean Kremer is on the injured list with a right quad strain, which makes it eight pitchers on the injured list for the Orioles.
