Nuggets’ Nikola Jokic drops ‘interesting’ quip after Jaden McDaniels’ cheap shot in rugged Game 1
The Denver Nuggets were able to take Game 1 against the Minnesota Timberwolves, winning 116-105. Of course, it was not an easy win, as both teams always make it hard for each other when they face off. It’s been that way for the past few years, and it’s obvious that they’re not fond of each other.
There were several technicals during the game, and while the Nuggets were making their run, Jaden McDaniels shoved Nikola Jokic in the back. Aaron Gordon came to the defense of his teammates, which caused a small gathering of the teams, and McDaniels was assessed a technical.
Jokic didn’t seem bothered about the foul during the game, nor after the game.
“It was physical,” Jokic said via Troy Renck of the Denver Post. “There were ups and downs, runs. Whenever we play them, it’s always interesting.”
Not only did Jokic feel the physicality of the game, but Jamal Murray did as well, which led him to shoot 16 free throws. Chris Finch was not a fan of the foul shots, and he said after the game that they were a head-scratcher. Murray thought otherwise.
“I thought I got fouled on every single one of them,” Murray said. “I don’t know what everybody’s talking about. [They were] real fouls.”
“Jamal is amazing. One of the best free-throw shooters in the game,” Jokic said. “When he’s aggressive, going to the rim and the ball is in his hand a lot, we are wholly confident he is going to make those [foul shots].”
It will be interesting to see how the game is called as the series continues, but the Timberwolves have proved to be a physical team. If they’re not able to play how they usually do, it wouldn’t be a surprise to see the Nuggets keep going to the line at a consistent rate.
