First look at Pat McAfee in debut movie role is here

Pat McAfee is trading the TV studio for film in his next move.

According to Netflix, the popular sports personality is adding another line to his resume, where he will be making his acting debut as a drill instructor in “THE MOSQUITO BOWL.”

The film is based on the New York Times bestseller “The Mosquito Bowl: A Game of Life and Death in World War II” by Pulitzer Prize winner Buzz Bissinger and will hit theaters on Oct. 30. It will later be released on the streamer following the theatrical release. “The Mosquito Bowl” follows the true story of four college football players who join the Marines after Pearl Harbor, where they participate in a historic game before facing Okinawa’s invasion.

McAfee reacted to the news in the comment section.

“It was a mind blowing honor to be asked to represent the toughest of the tough and the greatest of the great. The true pinnacle of a badass,” McAfee began. “What I learned was that a DI in the Marine Corps is the actual keeper of the Marines culture. They mold boys and girls into war ready men and women. I did not take any of it lightly.”

He concluded his post, writing, “It was an honor of a lifetime to learn about the Corps and tried my best to do these super human’s justice.”

The film is directed by Peter Berg who also stars in the film as General Buckner. Nicholas Galitzine, Bill Skarsgård, Ray Nicholson, and Stacy Clausen also star in the film.

McAfee’s role in the film mostly got negative feedback from fans following the announcement.

“Nobody wants this,” one fan warned.

A few fans were upset for insinuating McAfee was mocking members of the Marine Corps with his role: “Very happy for you but you are not, in any way shape or form, a representation of the Marine Corps; let alone a Drill Instructor. You had the privilege of playing dress up without getting scolded.”

While the film will go on with or without the public’s approval, it does follow the backlash McAfee received after being photographed with President Donald Trump at the Patriot Games finale after previously declaring he wasn’t political.
