Nneka Ogwumike bids Storm goodbye after 2 years

Nneka Ogwumike appears to have said goodbye to the Seattle Storm amid the WNBA free agency.

In a social media post on X (formerly Twitter), the 35-year-old Ogwumike shared a photo with a text that read “THANK YOU SEATTLE.”

She also captioned it with a couple of heart emojis and a heart hands emoji.

Ogwumike’s post garnered plenty of reactions from the fans.

“We are going to miss you and your leadership! 😭💚💛,” a fan said.

“Thank you madam president !! you’ll always be in our hearts!!💛💚⛈Once a Storm, always a Storm,” a social media user on X shared.

“Best of luck. Loved having you in my team’s jersey. 🥹,” another one commented.

“Nooo! So sad! Get that money tho,” a different fan said.

“Thank you so much for everything go storm u will always be remember,” another comment read.

Ogwumike spent the last two seasons with the Storm, who signed her to a pair of one-year contracts. She signed a one-year contract worth $204,500 with Seattle in 2024. The former Stanford Cardinal star was given a huge pay raise in 2025 with a $195,000 contract with the Storm.

With the WNBA and the Women’s National Basketball Players Association (WNBPA) agreeing to a new collective bargaining agreement, significant raises in contract values are to be expected, and Ogwumike is likely looking for a big payday while she’s still in the league.

Although she’s about to turn 36 in July, there’s still a lot of gas left in Ogwumike’s tank.

In the 2025 campaign, she averaged 18.3 points (the fourth-best in her career), 7.0 rebounds and 2.3 assists in 44 games, while shooting 53.9 percent from the field and finishing sixth in the voting for the Most Valuable Player award.
