Enes Kanter plans to attend Fever-Sky game after declaring for WNBA Draft
Enes Kanter is heading to a WNBA game tonight after declaring for the WNBA Draft and making comments about Angel Reese.
Kanter announced that he is going to the Windy City, as he plans to attend the Chicago Sky and Indiana Fever matchup tonight. According to TMZ, Kanter is prioritizing his safety and taking “major security measures” for tonight’s game.
The former NBA star went viral earlier this month when he declared for the 2027 WNBA Draft. He shared that the WNBA has to follow the “rules,” yet there have not been any policies made about transgender athletes in the league. The WNBA CBA limits play to “women,” but does not share policies on the gender identity of the athlete.
“The WNBA says a woman is anyone who claims to be one. So if I say I’m a woman, you have to accept it. Those are the rules the WNBA created,” Kanter wrote on X on Wednesday, Aug. 12.
He added, “Why does anyone get to decide whose journey is real and whose isn’t? Who gets to judge? Rules are Rules.”
His attendance at the Sky and Fever game also follow comments he’s made about Reese who used to play for the Chicago team.
“Once I go No. 1 pick in the 2027 @WNBA Draft, the first player I’m dunking on is Angel Reese,” Freedom wrote on X. “She’s the Paul George of the #WNBA.”
Former NBA star Royce White also declared for the WNBA Draft and with the ongoing discussion of transgender athlete’s in women’s sports, the league responded after holding a meeting with team presidents and general managers earlier this month.
“Today’s meeting covered a wide range of topics, including ongoing discussions on transgender athletes and the continued hate and vitriol directed at players online,” the league wrote in a statement. “We will continue to engage all league stakeholders in the coming weeks and months. We will approach these important conversations thoughtfully and in alignment with the values of our league. There are no immediate eligibility matters affecting the WNBA and we strongly denounce the bad-faith efforts to use these topics to demean or marginalize others.”
The Sky and Fever face off at 7:00 p.m. ET on NBC and streaming on Peacock.
