NHL rumors: The Western Conference team joining Rangers in Ducks’ Mason McTavish sweepstakes

Several teams have been frontrunners for Mason McTavish as the NHL offseason continues. Notably, the New York Rangers are pressing for a trade and could net one. Now, another Western Conference team has joined the conversation, as the Anaheim Ducks potentially consider their offers, according to Pierre LeBrun, NHL beat writer.

“Hearing it’s the Blues and Rangers that have offers in to Anaheim on Mason McTavish,” LeBrun wrote on X.

The St. Louis Blues are coming off a bad season where they failed to make the playoffs. Likewise, the Rangers stumbled badly with the worst mark in the Eastern Conference. The Ducks made the playoffs this season and went to the Second Round. Although they fell to the Vegas Golden Knights, there was enough confidence that this team could become a contender.

McTavish regressed this season after holding out prior to the 2025-26 campaign, finishing with 17 goals and 41 points in 75 games. Ultimately, this was down from the previous season, when he had 22 goals and 52 total points in 76 games. Despite that, there are plenty of teams interested in McTavish and see him as a second-line center.

The Ducks shifted him throughout the season between the second and third. However, he recently played left wing on the third line, alongside Ryan Poehling and Cutter Gauthier. The Blues’ interest in McTavish mainly stems from their need for a center. Currently, Pius Suter is their second-line center, and the team may be looking for an upgrade. But the Ducks likely will take an offer from a team that might throw in a defenseman, as that is currently their biggest need.
