The Boston Celtics are reportedly setting a steep asking price in any potential trade discussions involving Jaylen Brown. During an appearance on ESPN’s Get Up, NBA insider Shams Charania reported that Boston has sought a significant return from teams that have inquired about the 2024 Finals MVP.

“Where does this go from here? We know they tried to get Giannis, but what’s the ask now? My understanding is in some cases, the Celtics have asked teams for at least four first-round picks for Jaylen Brown. He’s got three years left on his contract and a super max clip.

Shams added, “So where does that put him as far as his value? And if this is a Boston team that’s been contending in the Eastern Conference, and their potential ask for some teams is a package of picks and players, how have they reimagined this roster moving forward, their finances, their viability as a contender in the Eastern Conference? But I do think as of right now, time will tell which side will bring the urgency to this matter this offseason.”

Charania’s report comes amid continued speculation about Brown’s future, as the Celtics explored multiple offseason scenarios after Boston’s first-round upset loss to the 76ers and the organization’s pursuit of Giannis Antetokounmpo.

Despite the trade speculation, ClutchPoints senior NBA reporter Brett Siegel previously reported that Brown has not asked the organization to move him.

“League sources close to the situation told ClutchPoints that Brown has not approached any member of the front office or team president Brad Stevens to ask for a trade.”
