NHL rumors: Ducks taking calls on Mason McTavish; these 3 teams have inquired

The Anaheim Ducks remain a rebuilding team with a young core that includes Leo Carlsson, Jackson LaCombe, Cutter Gauthier and others, after reaching the second round of the NHL Stanley Cup Playoffs before falling to the Vegas Golden Knights, who advanced to the Stanley Cup Final. Amid the franchise’s upward trajectory, offseason speculation has centered on forward Mason McTavish and his future with the organization.

The 23-year-old recorded 17 goals and 24 assists for 41 points in 75 games this season, a decline from his 2024-25 campaign when he finished with a career-high 22 goals and 30 assists for 52 points. Contract discussions last summer kept him out of training camp and preseason action, which was followed by a drop in production and a reduced role in the lineup. He was also a healthy scratch in two late-season games and two playoff contests.

Anaheim general manager Pat Verbeek is not actively shopping McTavish, but has been taking calls from interested teams. Among the teams keeping tabs on McTavish are the Toronto Maple Leafs, St. Louis Blues, and Winnipeg Jets, according to The Fourth Period. McTavish, a center who can also play left wing, has no trade protection at this stage of his deal. However, the Ducks would likely only consider moving him if a major trade offer is presented.

McTavish signed a six-year, $42 million contract last September, carrying an average annual value of $7 million through the 2030-31 season.
