Nebraska 4-star QB commit wins Elite 11 Finals Day 1 Rivals MVP
Nebraska Cornhuskers four-star 2027 quarterback commit Trae Taylor made an early statement at the 2026 Elite 11 Finals on Friday, earning Rivals MVP honors on the event’s opening day in Los Angeles.
The prestigious Elite 11 Finals, now in its 28th year, brought together 20 of the nation’s top quarterback prospects for three days of competition, instruction, and evaluation. Invitations were awarded through seven regional qualifying camps held throughout the spring. The 2026 field included every quarterback ranked in the top 10 of the 2027 Rivals Industry Ranking and 15 of the top 20 prospects in the class.
Rivals Director of Scouting and Rankings Charles Power named Taylor the event’s Day 1 MVP. Ole Miss commit Keegan Croucher, Kentucky commit Jake Nawrot, Clemson commit Kharim Hughley, and Oregon commit Will Mencl rounded out the top five performers.
Taylor’s spring success that included an impressive showing at his Elite 11 regional event made him one of the most closely watched quarterbacks entering the Finals, but he never treated the event as a coronation. The 6-foot-3 quarterback acknowledged the depth of talent in the field, pointing to quarterbacks such as Colton Nussmeier, Kavion Bryant, and Ty Knutson as contenders in their own.
Taylor committed to Nebraska on May 1, becoming the first player in the Cornhuskers’ 2027 recruiting class. The Mundelein, Illinois native selected Nebraska over Illinois, LSU, and Texas A&M. His commitment came after extensive recruiting attention that included visits to dozens of campuses and conversations with numerous Power Four programs.
On the field, Taylor has already produced impressive results. As a sophomore at Carmel Catholic High School, he threw for 3,061 yards, 20 touchdowns, and seven interceptions. His powerful arm, polished footwork, and accuracy have helped put him in the upper tier of quarterback prospects nationally.
Taylor recently began his move to Nebraska, where he will enroll at Millard South High School. While programs such as Ohio State continue to pursue him, the Cornhuskers remain well-positioned with their quarterback of the future.
The Elite 11 Finals continue on Saturday with a simulated pro day featuring a standardized 20-throw script for every participant.
