NCAA basketball rumors: Michigan, Duke expected to make push for Kansas star Flory Bidunga

The college basketball season is over after Michigan was crowned national champions on Monday night with an impressive victory over UConn. Now, the transfer portal wastes no time getting going as everyone has their eyes set on the 2027 Final Four in Detroit.

For the top teams in the country, that means a whole lot of roster turnover in the transfer portal as they manage departing players either in the portal or to the NBA. So far, one of the top names in the portal is Kansas star big man Flory Bidunga, who has become one of the top centers in the country over the last two years.

There is no doubt that Bidunga will have a robust market after entering the portal, but two of the top teams in the nation have already emerged in his recruitment. Michigan and Duke are both expected to make a push to land Bidunga, according to Joe Tipton of On3 Sports.

“The former Kansas big man is the reigning Big 12 Defensive Player of the Year. Two early schools to watch are Michigan and Duke,” Tipton wrote. “Both teams were involved in his high school recruitment (Michigan’s previous staff) and will likely need replacements in their frontcourt.”

Bidunga was a raw player as a freshman in 2024-25, but he evolved into one of the best players in the Big 12 last season. He started 34 games for the Jayhawks as a sophomore and averaged 13.3 points and nine rebounds per game. He also led the conference in both blocks per game (2.6) and field goal percentage (64%).

Whoever lands Bidunga is getting an athletic big man with experience in big games that plays extremely hard. He is active as a shot blocker and does good work on both the offensive and the defensive boards, while also serving as an elite lob threat on the offensive end.

Both Duke and Michigan will be looking for reinforcements in the front court. The Blue Devils are likely losing Cameron Boozer, while Michigan will likely be without Yaxel Lendeborg and Aday Mara. Adding Bidunga would be a great start to rebuilding on the interior.
