NBA rumors: Pelicans added to list of Jaylen Brown suitors
Boston Celtics star Jaylen Brown is eligible for a contract extension this offseason, and with it have come rumors, no matter how accurate or not, that the Celtics could look into a potential trade. But with a list of potential trade suitors for Brown continuing to grow, the New Orleans Pelicans are a team with interest, as per NBA insider Jake L. Fischer.
“The Pelicans have been mentioned by various league executives as a team with Jaylen Brown interest as well,” Fischer reports. “We don’t know if Boston is even going to fully entertain this by the end of the day, but that doesn’t mean these teams aren’t going to call and try.”
In addition to the Pelicans, the other teams that have reportedly expressed trade interest with the Celtics for Jaylen Brown include the Atlanta Hawks, Houston Rockets and Portland Trail Blazers. Brown is heading into the offseason with three years remaining on his current deal.
The Celtics’ star was an MVP candidate this season after helping lead the team to one of the top seeds in the Eastern Conference despite the absence of star forward Jayson Tatum. The former No. 3 overall pick was named to his fifth All-Star selection, and fourth consecutive.
Brown finished sixth in the MVP voting and was also selected to his second All-NBA team. He appeared in 71 games this season, at a little over 34 minutes per game. He averaged a career-high 28.7 points, 6.9 rebounds, 5.1 assists and 1.0 steals with splits of 47.7 percent shooting from the field, 34.7 percent shooting from the 3-point line and 79.5 percent shooting from the free-throw line.
