NBA rumors: Brian Windhorst confirms Jaylen Brown is ‘on table’ in Giannis Antetokounmpo trade talks

The Boston Celtics were largely billed as the team to beat in the East entering each of the last two postseasons, but both times they exited in the second round. There is a growing debate regarding the cause of these disappointing outcomes. Many highlight the squad’s dependence on 3-point shooting, while others believe the roster is simply not good enough to contend for another championship. No matter where people landed on this argument, one thing initially seemed clear: Jaylen Brown is part of the solution. Now that a Giannis Antetokounmpo trade is becoming a realistic scenario, No. 7 may no longer be a vital part of the blueprint.

Boston has joined the Miami Heat as the two front-runners in the Greek Freak sweepstakes, as the Milwaukee Bucks ostensibly inch closer to completing a much-anticipated blockbuster. If the Celtics are fully committed to acquiring the superstar forward, they will presumably have to deal away Brown. That does not appear to be a problem.

“I was really skeptical that the Boston Celtics were gonna go all in on this, and from what I understand, they have,” ESPN’s Brian Windhorst reported on Monday’s edition of “Get Up.” “They were very cautious about putting Jaylen Brown in an official firm offer, {but} I believe they have. Jaylen Brown is on the table, and Jaylen Brown could get traded for Giannis Antetokounmpo in the short term.”

Brown was once deemed untouchable, but the tides have gradually shifted in the land of green. Blowing a 3-1 series lead versus the Philadelphia 76ers has obviously added a greater sense of urgency. C’s president of basketball operations Brad Stevens is forced to consider the team’s current ceiling, and with an elite talent on the market, there is the temptation to make a seismic move.

Parting with a homegrown star is always difficult, though, particularly when he is an NBA Finals MVP who just enjoyed the best campaign of his career. Fans have grown attached to the game-changing wing over the last 10 years. They cannot ignore the signs, however.

Brown put his penthouse back on the market and is now a legitimate trade candidate amid the intensifying Antetokounmpo rumors. Even if the Celtics and Bucks do not get something done, it could be difficult to move forward as a unit. Losing has consequences, and they might come to pass in the very near future.
