Micah Parsons names his pick for Packers’ next breakout star
Last year, the Dallas Cowboys traded All-Pro pass rusher Micah Parsons to the Green Bay Packers, and the trade was expected to elevate Green Bay to the top of the NFC North Division. However, Parsons suffered a torn ACL in late December and was unavailable for the rest of the season, and was unable to participate in their postseason loss to the rival Chicago Bears.
In the 14 games he played in his first season with the Packers, he amassed 41 total tackles (19 solo), 12.5 sacks, and two forced fumbles.
Parsons, who will not be able to play until at least mid-October, has listed teammate Lukas Van Ness as the club’s next breakout star and believes that he’s been overlooked.
“Luke is someone people sleep on the most, and I don’t know why,” he said via Matt Schneidman on X, formerly known as Twitter. “I think by the end of the season, if Luke stays healthy… he’ll probably be the [fan] favorite. That’s how much confidence I have in him.”
Will Van Ness overtake Parsons as a fan favorite with the Packers faithful? He had a good-natured response to the question.
“I’m already a favorite, but I definitely think I’m going to have my hands full with Luke on who’s going to be the best,” he quipped.

Van Ness, who was selected in the first round (13th overall) of the 2023 NFL Draft by the Packers, has amassed 84 tackles, 8.5 sacks, 17 tackles for loss, 23 quarterback hits, 34 pressures, and a forced fumble so far in his NFL career.
