Mets’ Francisco Lindor comes to Carlos Mendoza’s defense amid brutal skid
The New York Mets lost 2-1 to the Chicago Cubs in extra innings on Sunday, marking their 11th straight loss. At 7-15, they have the worst record in the National League and tied for the worst in all of MLB. Francisco Lindor came to the defense of Mets manager Carlos Mendoza amid the 11-game skid and some hot-seat talk.
Francisco Lindor offered his defense of Carlos Mendoza after the Mets' 11th straight loss this afternoon:
"He's done a fantastic job. This is not on him. He has made sure everybody here is prepared. Every coach here is prepared. We have the information. It comes down on us.… pic.twitter.com/2RyuZETYpC

“He’s done a fantastic job. This is not on him. He has made sure everybody here is prepared. Every coach here is prepared. We have the information. It comes down on us. Mendy’s our guy. He’s our leader. He’s in control, and he’s done a tremendous job. We just haven’t executed. It would be unfair to put everything on him because, at the end of the day, he has gotten the ship in the right direction. …the people are paddling. We’ve got to paddle and execute,” Lindor said, per SNY.
Mendoza’s first season as the Mets bench boss ended in Game 6 of the NLCS, when they lost to the Los Angeles Dodgers. Then, they added Juan Soto to the squad for the 2025 season. After a dreadful September, they missed the playoffs with just 83 wins. Another big offseason set big expectations in 2026, which they are falling well short of.
Lindor also said that he and the Mets know they are going to get booed on Tuesday when they return to Citi Field. They host the Minnesota Twins for three games, and they could have a new manager by the time the game starts. With many expensive changes to the roster already done, it is one of the few levers David Stearns has not pulled.
The Mets’ season is far from over, as there are still five months until the playoffs. But it is getting late early in Queens, and Lindor knows things have to change.
