Mets’ David Peterson drops admission on struggles as trade rumors swirl

New York Mets left-handed pitcher David Peterson was an All-Star in 2025. The 2026 season has gone in a different direction for Peterson, however. He made 30 starts for New York last year, but only seven of his 14 outings this season have been starts as he has struggled on the mound. Peterson has even emerged as a trade candidate. The southpaw was recently asked about his struggles, via SNY.

“I think sometimes that’s just part of baseball. You have some good ones, you have some bad ones,” Peterson said. “I think it takes a long time to have a good year, so take it one day at a time, and then can fully evaluate the season itself at the end of the year… Continue to focus on each outing one at a time. Be as prepared at the highest level that I can be.”

Peterson has displayed the ability to find success at the big league level in the past. Teams around the MLB world would likely be interested in acquiring him if the Mets were indeed to make him available for a trade. Peterson can boost his trade value by bouncing back and performing well over the next month.

The Mets have struggled overall as a team. Peterson certainly is not the only player to blame. At 29-38, New York is currently in last place in the National League East standings.

David Peterson and the Mets will attempt to get back on track sooner rather than later. They are hoping to turn the season around as soon as possible.
