Mets’ Carlos Mendoza calls out alarming issue after Marlins sweep
The New York Mets have been struggling. They are in last place in the NL East and have lost five of their last six games. Over the weekend, they were swept by the Miami Marlins, with the game on Sunday being lost on a walk-off grand slam.
After the game, Mets manager Carlos Mendoz spoke, speaking about what the Mets need to do, per SNY Mets.
“We’ve got to find a way, because what we’re doing right now is not good enough. Simple as that,” Mendoza said.
He is speaking of the offense there, which did not score a single run on Sunday. In the game Sunday, they managed just four hits and five walks, but also struck out eight times. In the three-game series with the Marlins, they managed just two runs, losing all three games. The only win they have had in the last six games came on the back of the pitching, as they won the game 2-1 over the Washington Nationals.
Overall, the Mets are 25th in the majors in runs scored, while sitting 25th in batting average, 30th in on-base percentage, and 30th in slugging. In the last seven games, multiple players have struggled. While Juan Soto is hitting .333, Marcus Semien is hitting just .185.
As a team, they are hitting just .239 in the last seven games. They have hit nine home runs and scored 39 runs, but much of that came in one game, in which they scored 16 runs.
The Mets are just 22-31 on the season, sitting in last place in the NL East. They are 14 games behind the Atlanta Braves in the division, and seven games outside of a wild card spot. The Mets begin a three game series with the Cincinatti Reds on Monday at home.
