Mets announce 3 roster moves before Marlins game
The New York Mets made three roster moves Saturday before their matchup vs. the Miami Marlins at Citi Field, selecting Cionel Perez, optioning Tobias Myers, and designating Anderson Severino for assignment before the second game of the weekend series.
New York added Perez from Triple-A Syracuse to both the active roster and the 40-man roster. To make room, the Mets sent Myers back to Syracuse and removed Severino from the 40-man roster.
The moves came after Friday’s 9-7 walk-off win over Miami in 10 innings. MJ Melendez ended that game with a two-run homer, giving the Mets an opening victory in the three-game set and a chance to carry momentum into Saturday.
The organization posted the update on its official X, formerly Twitter, account Saturday afternoon, sharing the roster moves before first pitch.

The timing suggests a fresh-arm approach for Carlos Mendoza’s bullpen. Myers pitched one inning Friday and allowed two earned runs, including Owen Caissie’s game-tying homer in the eighth. Perez gives the Mets a rested left-handed option after joining the organization on a minor league deal May 6.
Perez also gives New York another matchup arm for a Marlins lineup that can create pressure from the left side. His addition reflects the club’s need for flexibility after a high-scoring opener that required extra innings and tested the bullpen.
Severino’s designation gives the Mets seven days to trade him or place him on waivers. The decision also shows how aggressively the front office is trying to stabilize the pitching staff as the club looks for traction.
The Mets entered the second game of the series with the Marlins sitting fifth in the NL East, 14.5 games behind the surging Atlanta Braves. They remain roughly seven games back of the final NL Wild Card spot.
With a chance to clinch the series, the Mets chose urgency over patience. Perez could factor into late-inning matchups immediately as New York tries to build on Friday’s finish.
