Mavericks’ Kyrie Irving gets wild Michael Jordan endorsement from Jeff Teague
The Dallas Mavericks are just two months away from kicking off their 2026-27 season, as they look to take a step forward under new head coach Dusty May. The Mavericks will be getting star point guard Kyrie Irving back this year after he missed the entire 2025-26 season due to his ACL surgery recovery.
Recently, Irving’s former Eastern Conference adversary, Jeff Teague, took to the Club 520 podcast to give Irving a huge endorsement amid his comeback, claiming that Irving would be better than Michael Jordan if they were the same height.
“It’s nothing he can’t do. Bro, what could he not do? What can he not do, bro? Name me something he can’t do. He’s not scared of the moment. If he was 6’6”, it’s no weakness in his game,” said Teague, per NBA Courtside on X, formerly Twitter.
Teague isn’t the first person to wonder how dominant Irving might be if he were at a traditional forward height in the NBA. Of course, being at that height might not allow Irving to have the exact same otherworldly tight handle and lightning-quick dexterity for which he has become known, but it’s still a fun thought experiment nonetheless.
Irving has been able to make do with the physical attributes at his disposal, still getting it done at a high level well into his 30s and figuring to play a big role as Cooper Flagg’s top perimeter playmaker this upcoming season. Expectations aren’t exactly sky-high for Dallas entering the 2026-27 campaign, but if Irving looks like the pre-injury version of himself, the Mavericks could be poised to raise some eyebrows.
Dallas is set to kick off its new season on October 21 vs the Houston Rockets.
