Mariners rumors: Analyst calls Aroldis Chapman, Luke Weaver ‘almost perfect fits’ for Seattle

With the Seattle Mariners preparing for the upcoming trade deadline, there are fans who are wondering who the team will target as a need for the ball club. While the Mariners have been linked to Boston Red Sox pitcher Aroldis Chapman, there is a conversation brewing about him and even New York Mets pitcher Luke Weaver being good fits for the team.

Speaking on MLB Network Radio on SiriusXM, former general manager and analyst Jim Duquette would agree with the host that Chapman is a good candidate for this team. Consequently, he would even go as far as to say that Chapman and Weaver would be a “perfect fit” for Seattle.

“I like where they’re at overall, oh yeah, I really like them as a great candidate to go out and acquire Aroldis Chapman,” the MLB Radio host said. “Like, I feel like that, you imagine that? And now the [Andrés] Muñoz is like started to get in the right frame, boy, put those two at the end of games, that might be really scary, and that feels like a Jerry Dipoto move. Doesn’t it?”

“Oh, it definitely does. I think Chapman would be great. I think Luke Weaver would be really good. You know, there’s a couple of relievers, but I think Chapman or Weaver would be like almost a perfect fit,” Duquette responded.

A look at potential Mariners targets in Aroldis Chapman and Luke Weaver

Looking at Chapman, he currently has a 2.08 ERA to go along with 29 strikeouts, 14 saves in 23 appearances, as he was even noted as a fit with the Mariners by Mark Feinsand of MLB.com. Subsequently, looking at Weaver with New York, the 32-year-old is recording a 2.18 ERA to go along with 34 strikeouts and a 2-1 record in 31 games.

At any rate, it remains to be seen who Seattle will target ahead of the trade deadline.
