Marcus Semien makes admission after Mets get shut out by Dodgers
The New York Mets were defeated 4-0 by the Los Angeles Dodgers on Monday night in LA. The Mets still have a number of talented players in the lineup despite Juan Soto’s injury absence, but the offense has struggled overall. In Monday’s game, the team managed to record only three hits and they did not draw a single walk. Marcus Semien, who had one of those three hits, addressed the lineup’s underperformance after the game, via MLB.com.
“Not a lot of production, you know, but a lot of guys are working hard to work our way out of this,” Semien said. “We need to score runs to win games… Our pitchers are throwing the ball well.”
So, what exactly is the issue for the offense at the moment? Overall, the ball club is just 25th in runs scored. The Mets clearly are not playing up to their potential.
“I think we’re trying to control the strike zone and swing at the right ones. That’s only half the battle,” Semien added. “Quality of contact is something we are all striving for. So, if we can control the strike zone and have quality contact, we’re going to have a lot better results than we’re having now.”
Overall, the Mets are not striking out at a concerning rate. The team has the 12th overall fewest strikeouts in the game. New York simply isn’t finding much success when the ball is put in play.
The Mets have now lost six consecutive games. They will attempt to get back on track on Tuesday night against the Dodgers.
