Marcos Senesi has completed his move to Tottenham Hotspur on a four-year contract.

The defender will join Spurs on July 1 subject to international clearance and upon the expiration of his Bournemouth contract.

The Cherries were resigned to losing Senesi since he refused to sign a new deal in December.

The 29-year-old agreed to stay at the club in January despite interest from Chelsea and played all-but one match in the 2025/26 campaign as Bournemouth qualified for the Europa League.

Manchester United, Juventus and Atletico Madrid were also keen on signing the Argentina international, but Spurs have won the race.

Tottenham struck an agreement in principle with Senesi in April and he is there player. Senesi will wear the no.5 jersey.

Senesi: I want to win things with Tottenham

Upon sealing his Spurs switch, Senesi said: “It’s a very special feeling to be a Tottenham Hotspur player.

“From the first moment, the club has shown why they want me and how much they want me to be a part of what they are building. It’s exciting and something I can’t wait to be involved in.

“Every time I step on the pitch, I will do my best to make the fans proud and to take the club back to the place it belongs. I want to win things with Tottenham and will do everything I can to make that happen.”

Spurs boss Roberto De Zerbi added: “Marcos’ experience, quality on the ball, and competitive edge will strengthen us defensively, as well as giving us flexibility in formation.

“He’s comfortable playing in a possession-based team, reads the game very well and has the personality to thrive in a demanding environment.

“I also love his mentality and desire to keep improving and I’m looking forward to working with him and seeing the big contribution he can make to the team.”

The north London club, who narrowly escaped relegation from the Premier League, have also signed free agent Andy Robertson this summer.

As for Bournemouth, Andoni Iraola announced his exit before the season’s climax with the Spaniard since taking the Liverpool job. Ex-Borussia Dortmund boss Marco Rose has been appointed as Iraola’s successor at Bournemouth.

However, the Cherries are determined to keep star trio Rayan, Eli Junior Kroupi and Alex Scott, having been hit hard during the 2025 summer transfer window.

Rebuilding

Tottenham are determined to put a catastrophic season behind them.

The club’s board of directors recently released a statement promising change. Meanwhile, De Zerbi insisted the rebuild must start now.

“We close one page and we open another page today,” he said after the 1-0 victory over Everton on the final day of the season.

“We have no time. We have to organise the next season, we have to begin a stronger team.

“I am very happy and very proud of every one of us. What we did was incredible, but it is finished. Now we have to move on and to prepare the future of our club.

“I came in a difficult moment and I think it made us stronger. We can become better for sure – as a coach, as players, as a club, and we cannot make the same mistakes.”

De Zerbi added: “I love smart people, and the smart people learn from their mistakes. If this season was like this, it is because we made many mistakes. Sincerely, from the mistakes, we have to find the reason to improve, to work harder, and to understand the mistakes. Otherwise, we can’t compete.

“We have a great relationship with (sporting directors) Johan (Lange) and Vinai (Venkatesham), and the board, they have no doubt, but it is right. I came (to) plan a new project.

“From today we have to start to work. My target when I came was today. To arrive today (with Premier League safety).

“We are lucky to have a lot of good players, a lot of good guys, but I think we have to complete the squad in the best way, with the first level of players, the right behaviour of the players.

“Right now, the quality of the players is important, but more important is the mentality of these players. Now, the job starts.”
