Irish Open 2026 confirmed tee times, leaderboard and prize money as Rory McIlroy headlines event in Doonbeg

The ever-popular Irish Open boasts a superstar field at Doonbeg this week.

Rory McIlroy is the defending champion following his stunning playoff victory over Joakim Lagergren at The K Club last year.

McIlroy eagled the 72nd hole in Kildare before needing three extra holes to finally see off Lagergren and win his home event for the second time.

The Masters champion headlines the field once again this week as the DP World Tour takes the event to Trump International Golf Links Ireland near Limerick for the first time.

As well as McIlroy, LIV Golf stars Jon Rahm and Tyrell Hatton plus several other top names will be in action.

Irish Open: Date and how to follow

The 2026 Amgen Irish Open is taking place from Thursday, September 10 to Sunday, September 13.

It is being held at Trump International Golf Links Ireland in Doonbeg.

The course will be a par 70 and has a modest yardage of 6,838 yards. 

It plays along the Doughmore Beach which sits right on Ireland’s Atlantic coastline so players will likely have to deal with some tricky weather conditions.

The action will get up and running at 7:15am UK time each day.

Sky Sports Golf will broadcast the action throughout the week with their coverage starting at 1:30pm each day due to the Solheim Cup.

Fans can also keep across the action with live updates on talkSPORT during all four days.

Irish Open: Field and leaderboard

There is a brilliant field in Doonbeg including McIlroy, Rahm, Shane Lowry, Robert MacIntyre and Brooks Koepka.

Patrick Reed will continue his run of DP World Tour events while Hatton, Sepp Straka and the Hojgaard twins will be teeing it up too.

Luke Donald is also in the field alongside fellow Englishmen in Alex Fitzpatrick, Matt Wallace, Dan Brown and Harry Hall.

Padraig Harrington, who won this event at Adare Manor in 2007, is among the Irish contingent.

Thriston Lawrence, who beat Paul Casey in a playoff to win the Omega European Masters last weekend, will be in action again.

McIlroy is alongside MacIntyre and Koepka for the first two days and tees off at 1:35pm on Thursday.

Lowry, Reed and Rahm are also together and get going at 1:45pm on the opening day

Irish Open: What has been said?

McIlroy is hoping to give the Irish fans more to cheer following his win 12 months ago.

McIlroy said: “I’m looking forward to returning home for the Amgen Irish Open later this year.

“Playing in front of Irish fans is always incredibly special. The scenes at The K Club last year were unforgettable.

“The roar when I holed my eagle putt on the 18th and the energy from the crowd will stay with me forever. Hopefully I can give the fans more of the same this year at Doonbeg.”

Lowry is eager to win on home soil again following his victory at County Louth as an amateur back in 2009.

Lowry said: “Playing in front of home fans at your national open is always incredibly special. It’s a tournament I love, one I grew up watching, and to have my name on the trophy means a great deal. There’s no better feeling than playing on home soil and I’m really excited for the Irish Open.

“Winning it again is always a goal. It’s going to be a fantastic field this year at Doonbeg and it’s great to see how much it means to fans in Ireland and how it continues to grow.

“I’ve had some strong performances in the event over the last few years and would love nothing more than to get my hands on that trophy again.”
