Marcel Reed gives Lionel Messi a special gift at Kyle Field before 2026 FIFA World Cup

Just days ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup in the USA, Mexico, and Canada, Texas A&M was presented with a unique opportunity to host the Argentina soccer team. Kyle Field hosted a World Cup warm-up match between Argentina and Honduras. While Argentina is the 2022 FIFA World Cup champion, Honduras is also one of the strongest teams in South America.

Argentina won the game 2-0 with forward Lautaro Martínez scoring and assisting. Beginning their campaign on a delightful note, fans felt the absence of soccer legend Lionel Messi. The Inter Miami captain found himself on the sidelines, recovering from an injury. However, despite not playing, he made an appearance at Kyle Field, waking up the crowd and sending them into a frenzy.

After the game, Texas A&M Aggies’ star quarterback Marcel Reed met with Messi. Both regarded as two of the best in their own worlds, Messi and Reed also shared a memorable exchange. After Argentina secured the win, Reed met Messi and presented him with a gift: a Texas A&M jersey. Reed gave Messi a maroon “Reed” jersey as the two shook hands and posed for a photograph.

Reed attended the event with current and former Texas A&M stars. The Aggies’ quarterback and his teammate, running back Rueben Owens II, were both dressed in Argentina kits. Wide receiver Isaiah Horton and former Texas A&M star Von Miller were with Reed and Owens.

The Argentinian national team is preparing for the 2026 World Cup, where they will look to defend the World Cup they won four years ago in 2022. Argentina will begin their tournament against Algeria on Jun. 16, 2026.
