Josh McDaniels reveals how Patriots players are ‘lying’ to media

The New England Patriots are just a few days away from kicking off their 2026 NFL season with a Super Bowl rematch against the Seattle Seahawks. The Patriots have made some big moves on offense this offseason, headlined by their trade for former Philadelphia Eagles wideout AJ Brown, among other moves.

Recently, Patriots offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels revealed how nice it has been working with this group of players ahead of the new season.

“We’ve got a really smart group. These guys are telling you how hard it is to learn (the offense). They’re lying to you,” said McDaniels, per Mark Daniels of MassLive on X, formerly Twitter.

Daniels also reported that “…McDaniels says Drake Maye knows a lot more than he did a year ago and pointed to his growth this offseason. He said Drake’s excited to start this season.”

The Patriots are hoping for big things out of quarterback Drake Maye as he enters his third season in the NFL. Last year, Maye had an elite regular season, finishing second in the NFL in MVP voting behind Los Angeles Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford.

However, unfortuantely, Maye was just as dreadful in the postseason as he was impressive during the regular year, resulting in some ugly performances from the Patriots’ offense, which crashed and burned in the Super Bowl against Seattle. Still, that doesn’t fully diminish what he was able to accomplish during the regular season in leading the Patriots to one of the best records in the league.

Maye will have a chance to immediately exact some revenge on the Seahawks’ defense when the new regular season gets underway on Wednesday evening in Seattle.
