Manchester United closing in on Michael Carrick’s first signing as £39million deal is agreed
Manchester United have reached an agreement rising to £38.8million to sign Atalanta star Ederson, talkSPORT understands.
The two clubs have been in advanced talks for days, and they have now finally settled on a fee for the midfielder.

Ederson, who has been on United‘s radar since 2024, will pen a deal at Old Trafford until 2030 – with the option of a further 12 months.
United will fork out an initial £35m to sign the Brazilian, with almost £4m to be paid in potential future add-ons.
Atalanta knew they had to cash in on the player this window to avoid losing him on a free next summer.
The 26-year-old has made 180 appearances for Atalanta and was part of their 2023/24 Europa League-winning squad.
However, head coach Raffaele Palladino did not play him in their final Serie A match of the season amid the links with United.
“It was a choice agreed with the player because there is something happening on the transfer market,” he said via Football Italia.
“The fact that a player like him is being followed by such an important club should be a source of pride.”
A new era gets underway
Ederson is set to become the club’s first signing since they made Michael Carrick their permanent head coach.
Carrick returned to Old Trafford in January on a deal until the end of the 2025/26 season following the dismissal of Ruben Amorim.
He thoroughly impressed as United went on to finish third in the Premier League, marking their return to Champions League football.

The former midfielder has a contract that runs until 2028.
United are looking to sign a midfield replacement for Casemiro, who leaves the club this summer and looks set to sign for Inter Miami.
talkSPORT reported last week that their rivals Manchester City have also scouted Ederson ahead of the summer window.
However, City hope to sign Elliot Anderson, who Nottingham Forest believe is worth as much as the £105m Arsenal paid for Declan Rice.
Carlos Baleba and Adam Wharton are also understood to be targets for United.
