The Persona Engine, Explained
Firstly, the biggest impact to Madden 27 Franchise is the brand new Persona Engine. This new system completely changes how players behave in Franchise and intended to add more realistic, life-like interactions.
This affects many aspects from contract negotiations, to player holdouts, trade demands, and much more. Overall, the game features over 65 different types of DNA, making many players behave differently than others. Each player’s DNA determines what they want out of their career (motivation, finances, goals, accomplishments, long-term needs, etc.)
Many of the old Storylines and scenarios have been removed in favor of this new Engine. Overall, it seeks to add more weight to the more important moments in franchise. Let’s go over some of those interactions when it comes to the actual gameplay.
Madden 27 Franchise to feature Player Holdouts, Expanded Contract Negotiations, and Trade Demands
The new Persona Engine plays a big role in Madden 27 bringing three big changes to player interactions in Franchise:
- Player Holdouts
- Player Trade Demands
- Contract Negotiations
Firstly, Players may now hold out if they feel underpaid, undervalued, or just unhappy with their current setup. This causes them to hold out, refusing to participate from team events. During this phase, you can ignore the situation, or try to communicate with the player and attempt to get them back on the field.
Furthermore, players may now demand a trade. If talks go from bad to worse, they may just want to leave your organization and play elsewhere. Driven by their DNA, someone may want to leave for financial or other reasons. But this also applies to other teams, too, meaning you can take advantage of the perfect situations.
Other times, you may just have a player who wants to negotiate their contract. Essentially, the new offseason negotiation experience has been transformed into a mini-game. You have a limited amount of time to negotiate with your player. Depending on their status with the team, a player may be less or more patient in working with you than others.
During this process, you need to determine what a player really wants and focus on their biggest needs. A young star player like Tetairoa McMillan may want a big contract with a good salary and guarantees as well as respectable length. A veteran QB may care more about his contract length and role on the team. Regardless, every player has wants and needs that you need to satisfy in order to keep them.
During the negotiation phase, you need to make the correct choices for each player, or else their patience and interest may drop. If you offer your superstar WR a low amount of money, they’ll grow tired of talk, negatively impacting the negotiations. So you need to be prepared to give them a good offer while also avoiding an overpay/overpromise.
Speaking of contract negotiations, Madden 27 adds a lot more complexity to contracts with new details like:
- Guaranteed Contracts
- Void Years
- Contract Incentives
- No-Trade Clauses
- Custom Contract Structures
- Longer Street Free Agent deals
- Negotiating outside of The Final Contract Year
Whether it’s the regular season or offseason, prepare yourself for some interesting and difficult decisions ahead. And speaking of the Offseason…
Offseason Improvements to Madden 27 Franchise
Furthermore, Madden 27’s Franchise mode adds more improvements to the Offseason experience. Things like Tags, Free Agency, and Undrafted FAs all play a part in the experience.
Firstly, Madden 27 adds every type of Franchise Tag and Transition Tag to the game. You can utilize two different types of Franchise Tags (Exclusive and Non-Exclusive) as well as a Transition Tag if you want to match an offer.
Lastly, they also included every tier of Restricted Free Agent tender along with draft pick compensation. This includes first, second, original round as well as right of first refusal tenders.
And speaking of Free Agency, the mode also features a new offseason event that pits all 32 teams against each other. Free Agent Frenzy is a 12-hour window in which you and other teams fight to obtain the hottest players.
Is Caleb Williams leaving Chicago? Expect him and other players like him to become the first ones taken off the board. Each hour is its own phase, and as you advance through each one, you decide when to make your moves.
Low on cap space or need more practice squad talent for the pre-season? Madden 27 Franchise’s draft classes also generate Undrafted Rookie Free Agents. This creates more opportunity to pick up some new players before the draft.
All of these situations create more challenges between each game, forcing you to really think before making each decision.
New Coach Mode & Other Coach Improvements – Madden 27 Franchise
Like College Football 27’s Dynasty Mode, Madden 27 Franchise adds a real coach mode to the game. As the name suggests, this allows you to control play-calling while watching your players from the sidelines. Additionally, you can manage the roster and handle other duties, directly impacting your players on the field.
In addition to Coach Improvements, Coordinators also received some love this year. Real NFL Coordinators are coming to Madden 27, helping create a more realistic experience. Like players, Coordinators come and go, meaning you may see your best coordinator get hired by a rival for their Head Coaching Job.
Lastly, College Football 27 Dynasty Coaches don’t end their journey in College. Create a coach in Madden 27 to unlock aa new special coach archetype. This new archetype features special coach abilities and playsheets that cannot be unlocked with any other coach archetype.
Miscellaneous Gameplay Improvements
Additionally, Madden 27 brings several other improvements to Franchise mode.
Firstly, the developers rebalanced SuperSim to take rosters and ratings into account more, rather than just playbooks. Furthermore, teams’ rosters will adjust as they get and lose players. For example, Kansas City may become a run-heavy team when Patrick Mahomes retires or gets traded away.
Additionally, Dynamic Weather forces you to adapt to certain climates and conditions throughout the game. The CPU will have to adjust, too, and speaking of the CPU, they boast smarter trade logic this year. Additionally, the developers also put more focus into Wear & Tear as well as Coach customization and more.
Lastly, players possess their own tiered abilities, all of which play a role in their progression. Essentially, the more a player grows and develops, the better their abilities become.
Overall, that includes everything you need to know about Madden 27 Franchise mode. Of course, feel free to check out the official EA Sports blog for all the extra little details as well. We look forward to diving into Franchise ourselves and see how these changes really feel.
