Liberty sign former WNBL MVP to developmental contract
The New York Liberty have signed former WNBL MVP Anneli Maley to a developmental contract, according to WNBA insider Khristina Williams.
Williams shared the news Saturday on X, formerly known as Twitter.
“The NY Liberty have signed Anneli Maley to a developmental contract, the team announced,” Williams wrote.
Maley, 27, joins the Liberty after a brief stint earlier this season with the Phoenix Mercury. She appeared in two games for Phoenix, averaging one rebound while playing three minutes per contest.
Before her time with the Mercury, Maley also spent part of the 2022 WNBA season with the Chicago Sky. In four appearances with Chicago, she averaged two points and 1.8 rebounds across 11 minutes per game while shooting 50% from the field and 66.7% from 3-point range.
Maley built much of her professional résumé overseas, particularly in Australia’s Women’s National Basketball League. During the 2025 WNBL season with the Perth Lynx, she delivered one of the most productive campaigns of her career.
Across 27 games, Maley averaged 15.5 points, 14.4 rebounds, 3.7 assists and 1.5 steals per game while shooting 40.8% from the field, 32.8% from beyond the arc and 81.8% from the free-throw line.
Anneli Maley brings rebounding presence and former WNBL MVP pedigree to Liberty
Her rebounding ability and consistent production have been trademarks throughout her international career. Maley previously won WNBL MVP honors during the 2022 season while playing for the Bendigo Spirit, becoming one of the league’s top frontcourt players.
The Liberty add Maley as they continue navigating the early portion of the 2026 WNBA season. New York enters Sunday with a 3-2 record and will attempt to rebound from an 87-70 loss to the Golden State Valkyries on Thursday night.
The Liberty are scheduled to face the Dallas Wings on Sunday at 3:30 p.m. ET. The game will air on NBC and Peacock.
New York continues to evaluate roster depth as the organization pursues another championship run following its recent rise among the WNBA’s top contenders.
