Landry Shamet gets brutally honest on De’Aaron Fox play in Game 4
While the San Antonio Spurs held double digit leads in all but Game 1 of the NBA Finals, what was perhaps the nail in the coffin was in Game 4 when De’Aaron Fox’s late-game blunder set up OG Anunoby’a game-winning tip-in. Fox’s decision not to hold the ball and try and dribble the clock out received widespread criticism, but Knicks guard Landry Shamet understood the decision.
During a recent appearance on the ‘Old Man and The Three,’ show, Landry Shamet explained how thought the Knicks were in trouble when De’Aaron Fox came up with the loose ball at the end of Game 4 and sprinted down court.
“I thought he was gonna dribble it out and get fouled,” Shamet said. “He caught some flak for shooting that layup. He’s done that, he’s outrun everyone, he always has. He’s done that his whole life. Even still, it was a layup … that alone in itself was like a quick drop, like s**t.”
Shamet then described how what followed could only be described as chaos, from Anunoby blocking Fox’s shot, the Knicks coming up with the ball and dribbling up court and then the pandemonium that hit Madison Square Garden once Anunoby’s put-back was good.
Now with the offseason officially here, Shamet’s return to the team is not a given. The eight-year veteran is an unrestricted free agent, and it Knicks might not be able to afford to bring him back if the team is dead set on not reaching the dreaded second apron.
After making the roster out of training camp, Shamet played a huge role off the bench. During the postseason run, he averaged 6.0 points and 1.1 rebounds while shooting 45.3 percent from the field and 47.5 percent from the 3-point line.
