Lamar Jackson slapped with harsh reality after NFL Top 100 tumble

The Baltimore Ravens and Lamar Jackson must be furious right now. Jackson plummeted 67 spots in the NFL’s Top 100 list, an annual exercise that polls NFL players about who is the best in the league. One national analyst shared his perspective on why Jackson took such an extreme tumble after last season.

ESPN’s Bart Scott shared his take on Jackson’s fall on a recent segment of Get Up. He explained that Lamar simply did not put in enough work during the 2025 season.

“Success in this league is rented, not owned, and the rent’s due every day. The rent wasn’t paid by Lamar Jackson last year,” Scott said on Tuesday.”What you have to ask yourself is can Lamar Jackson adjust to being a pocket passer? Because we didn’t see the explosive runs that he had last year. We’re accustomed to seeing Lamar changed angles, put defenses in a bind. Guys were tackling him one-on-one in space and we’re not accustomed to seeing that.”

Lamar had a down season in 2025, missing four games with hamstring and back injuries. He logged 2,549 passing yards with 21 touchdowns and seven interceptions as a passer. Lamar also had his worst season of his career as a rusher, only managing 67 carries for 349 rushing yards and two touchdowns.

Scott questioned whether or not Jackson is still the elite scrambling quarterback that he was earlier in his career.

“Then you have to start asking yourself what version of Lamar Jackson are we going to get moving forward?” Scott continued. “New offensive coordinator, his third one. Then I started doing a deep dive. Lamar Jackson has 1,081 rushing attempts, Cam Newton throughout his career had 1,118. Has the wear and tear started catching up with an athletic quarterback?”

The Ravens hired Declan Doyle as their next offensive coordinator. How Doyle decides to run his offense could be one of the biggest factors for Lamar next season.

It will be fascinating to get a first look at Lamar in Baltimore’s new-look offense when training camp kicks off later this month.
