Lakers rumors: LA insider corrects ‘false’ Bronny James assumptions with LeBron going elsewhere

LeBron James may have officially informed the Los Angeles Lakers that he will be plying his trade elsewhere for what will be a record-breaking 24th season in the NBA. For the longest of time, the assumption was that Bronny James’ future was closely linked with that of his father, with many assuming that LA kept him on the roster due to the 41-year-old’s presence.

However, as per anonymous league sources, LA views Bronny as a long-term developmental piece and the assumption that the two will stay linked going forward are simply false. That means that Bronny is likely to remain with the Lakers especially after he was given a guaranteed $2.3 million contract for what will be his third season with the franchise. The Athletic’s Danny Woike wrote that LeBron’s decision to leave LA after eight seasons is completely independent of Bronny’s future.

“While anything can happen, the younger James, 21, is well-liked in the Lakers locker room and a respected worker who has improved greatly in his two years with the organization.”

For the time being, Bronny is part of the veteran minicamp that began Monday and also attended the South Bay Lakers’ recent win on Saturday night. And well, it is not to say that the younger James has not earned this status.

He averaged 15.6 points, 3.1 rebounds and 3.6 assists per game in the NBA G League and had a 50/40/90 shooting efficiency. While plenty of questions were asked about how well he would adapt to the NBA, Bronny also played some impressive minutes towards the end of last campaign.

Overall, he averaged 2.9 points and 1.2 assists on a 40.9/38.6/85.7 shooting split in the NBA, averaging 6.6 points per game in the final five games last season. Bronny also played important minutes in the playoffs in the absence of Austin Reaves and Luka Doncic, and may as well benefit from LeBron’s absence.

That is because his career has until now been assumed to be closely tied to his father, with many questioning whether the Lakers would even have signed him had it not been for LeBron. However, that does not appear to be true, at least anymore.
