Lakers get Game 3 win congratulations from Dodgers

The Los Angeles Lakers have stunned the entire NBA community with the way they have gone about their business against the Houston Rockets. LeBron James, in the absence of Austin Reaves and Luka Doncic, has dominated proceedings, something which was on full show in the Game 3 112-108 victory.

So much so that even the MLB is on full notice, with the Los Angeles Dodgers congratulating their fellow city outfit during their game against the Chicago Cubs. The Game 3 score was projected on the big screen at Dodger Stadium in the middle of the 6-4 loss against Chicago, resulting in cheers from the entire crowd, per a post on X by Dodgers Nation.

And well, the Lakers undoubtedly deserve it. They are just one win away from a sweep after being written off by most critics and fans alike.

Los Angeles erased a six-point deficit in the final 25.4 seconds, only the second such collapse in nearly three decades. Marcus Smart initially generated a steal and drew a three-shot foul, converting all free throws to cut the deficit to three.

On the next possession, another turnover allowed LeBron to tie the game with a three-pointer with 13.6 seconds left. Houston also failed to manage clock on its final regulation possession, leaving 1.2 seconds and allowing another James attempt, which only narrowly missed.

In overtime, Smart scored 8 of the team’s 11 overtime points, finishing with 21 points, 10 assists, 5 steals, and 2 blocks, his second straight game with five steals. Rui Hachimura added 22 points, but the star of the show was undoubtedly the 41-year-old LeBron.

He logged 29 points, 13 rebounds, and 6 assists in 45 minutes, sitting just two minutes across the second half and overtime. The game also saw Bronny James record his first career playoff points and connect with LeBron on the first father-son assist in NBA playoff history.

For the Rockets, Alperen Sengun delivered 33 points, 16 rebounds and six assists on 15-of-27 shooting. Amen Thompson had 26 points, 11 rebounds, 4 assists, 3 steals and 3 blocks, while Jabari Smith Jr. added 24 points on 6-of-10 from three. Collectively, the trio accounted for 83 points.

However, Houston shot just 28.2% from three as a team as the absence of Kevin Durant was felt especially towards the end. While he is set to return for Game 4, the immediate consequence is a 3-0 deficit, historically insurmountable in NBA playoff history.
