Knicks superfan Spike Lee sends message to Victor Wembanyama after Spurs’ Game 4 choke

After blowing a 29-point lead in Game 4 of the NBA Finals to Spike Lee’s New York Knicks, it might not be Victor Wembanyama and the San Antonio Spurs‘ year.

Lee appeared during NBA TV’s postgame show, and he discussed Wemby. While he is confident he’ll eventually lead the Spurs to the promised land, he’s being challenged right now.

“He’s going to get rings, but you’ve got to go through the trials and tribulations,” he said about Wembanyama, who’s staring down the barrel of losing his first NBA Finals.

During the playoffs, whether the game is at home at Madison Square Garden or on the road, there’s a good chance that Lee shows up. He is one of the most devoted fans, and he understands why non-celebrity fans travel as well. It comes down to affordability.

“These seats [at MSG] cost an arm and a leg. It is more affordable to drive down to Philly [and] come back. It’s more affordable [to book] a roundtrip ticket to Atlanta, [or] a roundtrip ticket to Cleveland,” he explained. “I’m fortunate that I can afford the seats, but everybody can’t; that’s why we travel! Because it’s cheaper on the road! San Antonio, too.”

He then seemingly teased that he would be in San Antonio for Game 5. Lee will potentially witness the franchise’s third-ever championship and first since 1973.

The Knicks required a 29-point comeback to secure their Game 4 win. Things were looking dire for a long time, as they were down by 27 points going into halftime.

However, they continued to chip away at the lead. It came down to an incredible play by OG Anunoby. He tipped in a missed three-pointer by Jalen Brunson with less than two seconds to go, securing a one-point Knicks win.
