Knicks superfan Jerry O’Connell makes shameful admission after missing Game 1 comeback

Before their epic 22-point comeback, things were looking dire for the New York Knicks in Game 1 vs. the Cleveland Cavaliers, and superfan Jerry “Mr. Bing Bong” O’Connell missed it.

He took to X, formerly Twitter, to make his confession. “Mr. Bing Bong” turned off the game in the fourth quarter, but he will do better going forward.

“I need to admit something… I turned off [the Knicks] last night in the 4th quarter,” O’Connell said. “I will never miss another minute of this post season. I am ashamed.”

O’Connell was born and raised in New York. He attended NYU for college, and he remains a fan of the city’s NBA team. “Mr. Bing Bong” is best known for playing Vern Tessio in Stand by Me. His other notable credits include Jerry Maguire, Scream 2, Crossing Jordan, and The Defenders.

Another Knicks superfan, Ben Stiller, responded to O’Connell’s post. He let him off the hook, saying, “It’s ok. We all have our moments.”

Of course, some fans will be upset about O’Connell’s admission. BigKnick Energy replied, “Come on Jerry,” with a GIF of Kermit the Frog shaking his head disapprovingly.

The Knicks were down by 22 points with under eight minutes to go in Game 1 against the Cavs. This is when Jalen Brunson flipped a switch, and he got hot at the right time.

Brunson ended the game with 38 points. However, he scored 15 of them in the fourth quarter and overtime, willing his team to a comeback.

New York chipped away at the lead and tied it at 101 in regulation. In overtime, they outscored Cleveland 14-3 for their eighth win in a row.

The Cavs will have their chance at revenge on May 21. They will play Game 2 at Madison Square Garden at 8 pm EST. The Cavs are hoping to rebound after the heartbreaking loss.
