Knicks superfan Donald Trump ‘considering’ NBA Finals appearance at MSG

After current President Donald Trump reinforced his New York Knicks fandom, he is reportedly “considering” attending a game of the NBA Finals.

The New York Times reports that Trump might make an appearance at an NBA Finals game, whenever they play at Madison Square Garden in New York City.

According to the report, he was planning on attending Game 5 of the Eastern Conference Finals (ECF) if the Knicks had lost Game 4. Luckily, they were able to pull off the sweep of the Cleveland Cavaliers. They won Game 4 by 37 points.

Despite his busy schedule, Trump has made time for sporting events during his presidency. He attended Super Bowl 59 in New Orleans, Louisiana, in February 2025. He was also at a New York Yankees game, the Daytona 500, and the US Open men’s final.

Next month, he will celebrate his birthday when UFC holds its Freedom 250 event at the White House. The octagon will be set up on the South Lawn.

While the White House didn’t respond to the New York Times’ request for comment, a Madison Square Garden spokesperson did. They weren’t aware of Trump’s potential plans to attend an NBA Finals game, but they said that “the president — no matter who holds the office — is always welcome at the venue.”

This shouldn’t be that surprising. Knicks owner James Dolan is friends with the president. As the New York Times notes, Dolan has donated to his past political campaigns, and he also got married at Trump’s Mar-a-Lago club.

The news of Trump’s plan comes after he just raved about the Knicks. He told TalkRadio 77 WABC that he was still a fan of the team. He also believed Dolan deserved their current success.

“I think he’s a really nice guy, and he’s entitled to a good team because he’s suffered a little bit,” he said.
