Khabib Nurmagomedov slams Dana White over ‘millions’ UFC retirement claim

Former UFC Champion Khabib Nurmagomedov has verbally slammed the promotion’s president, Dana White, over his past remarks on his retirement. Approximately six months ago, White appeared on the Prince St. Pizza YouTube channel, where he opened up about the situation of Nurmagomedov’s retirement. While “The Eagle” retired due to personal reasons, White believes it was due to money.

“We had our Muslim world champion (Nurmagomedov), but the problem is, they took him on a tour to Muslim countries. He went to Saudi Arabia, Abu Dhabi, Qatar, and they showered him with money,” White said. “He earned so much money that he no longer needed to fight. On top of that, his father passed away, which played a big role in his decision.”

However, Khabib did not take the statements lightly and broke his silence on the matter. Via his Instagram stories, the 37-year-old cleared his side of the story and slammed White for his comments on him earning “millions.”

“Sometimes I read these headlines, and I am not a fan of giving my commentaries to every nonsense on the internet, but when Dana talks, the news spread fast,” Nurmagomedov wrote. “I’ll say this: I swear by Allah this is an absolute lie. Nobody ever gave me those millions, and it’s also not true that I left the sport because I made a lot of money. The whole world already knows the real truth – I’ve spoken about it many times and there’s no need to repeat it,” Khabib finished. (quotes translated from Russian.)

Since retiring in Jul. 2020, Nurmagomedov has recently opened up about still getting offers for a comeback but has continued to reject all such proposals.
