Kendrick Perkins accuses LeBron James of free agency decision ‘grandstanding’

Four-time NBA champion LeBron James is the talk of free agency, as he is seeking a new opportunity for the 2026-27 season. While there are numerous teams rumored to be pursuing him, James has yet to make an official decision. On Tuesday, former center turned analyst Kendrick Perkins called the future Hall of Famer out for stalling his decision.

During the latest episode of “NBA on ESPN,” Perkins claimed that the 41-year-old has yet to make his decision because he is loving the attention too much. Kendrick Perkins ended his take by admitting that if he were James, he would be doing the same thing.

“At this point, the word to describe what [LeBron James] is doing is grandstanding,” Perkins said… “The definition of grandstanding: The act or practice of behaving or performing in a showy way in an attempt to impress others. I believe that he already know[s] where he wants to go. I believe that LeBron James is in the moment where he wants to feel loved.

“He’s loving all the attention. He’s loving the phone calls from all the different organizations that want him to come there. He’s loving the phone calls from all the other stars and superstars around the league,” continued Perkins. “And rightfully so, because guess what? If I was in this position, dammit, I would be grandstanding as well.”

While Kendrick Perkins is convinced the four-time MVP is concealing his decision from the public, rumors have linked LeBron James to several organizations. Those clubs are the Cleveland Cavaliers, Philadelphia 76ers, Miami Heat, Minnesota Timberwolves, and Golden State Warriors.

The 22-time All-Star played more of a second-option role with the Los Angeles Lakers, with Luka Doncic leading the way for the franchise. James ended last season averaging 20.9 points, 6.1 rebounds, 7.2 assists, and 1.2 steals per contest with a 51.5% field goal percentage and hitting 31.7% of his three-point attempts.
