Karl-Anthony Towns condemns Knicks fans for attacking Spurs supporter after Game 3
New York Knicks center Karl-Anthony Towns has weighed in on the multiple incidents of Knicks fans allegedly harassing Spurs supporters following the team’s Game 3 loss. Several videos have spread on social media showing Knicks fans confronting Spurs fans, with some of the confrontations escalating into physical altercations.
In a recent media availability on Tuesday, Towns condemned the acts.
“The game is built off of respect and passion, We want everyone to respect each other. We want everyone to enjoy basketball at its purest state. It’s the NBA Finals. There’s no better place to watch basketball. Leave the physicality to everyone on the court.”
Towns wasn’t the only one to speak out, as actor and Knicks superfan Ben Stiller took to his ex account to decry what occurred.
“Being a Knick fan doesn’t mean being disrespectful to Spurs fans in any way…we get caught up during the games but we gotta show respect to our fellow humans…”
Spurs star Victor Wembanyama also weighed in, condemning the actions of the Knicks fans.
“My thoughts of course [are] that we can’t forget it’s a game,” Wembanyama said. “We’re just playing a game out there. I am all for passion, but [with] the respect of each other. It’s unacceptable.”
Meanwhile, Spurs guard Dylan Harper called attention to what he deemed a “hostile environment.”
“It’s my first time in New York, walking out and getting booed. I can say that. It’s kind of been every series. I think [in Oklahoma City] during the Western Conference finals, we got booed a little bit. Not really much in Minnesota and Portland. But I feel like it’s New York, [a] hostile environment. I don’t think it would feel the same if it wasn’t this hostile.”
