Kansas Jayhawks hosting 18.9-PPG transfer on visit

Kansas is set to host one of the most productive scorers in the transfer portal, as head coach Bill Self and the Jayhawks welcome UNC Asheville wing Kameron Taylor for an official visit this coming weekend, 247Sports National Basketball Recruiting Analyst Dushawn London reported Wednesday night.

Taylor is coming off a prolific sophomore season in which he led the Big South Conference in scoring at 18.9 points per game. Over 32 appearances, he averaged 5.0 rebounds, 3.0 assists, and 0.8 steals in 34.7 minutes per contest. He attempted 14.2 field goals per game and shot 45.3% from the field, including 52.9% inside the arc and around 28% from three-point range.

The 6-foot-7 wing produced consistently, scoring 20 or more points in 27 of 32 games, including a season-high 35-point performance against Charleston Southern. He reached the free-throw line frequently, attempting 224 shots and converting 157 (70.1%), an average of 7.0 attempts per game. His performance earned him First Team All-Big South honors after previously making the conference’s All-Freshman Team as a freshman, when he averaged 8.9 points and 4.2 rebounds in 22.1 minutes off the bench.

Taylor has also drawn attention from programs such as Florida State, Michigan, Texas, Indiana, SMU, St. John’s, and Florida. He has already completed a Zoom call with Florida State and is expected to visit Tallahassee following his trip to Lawrence.

In transfer rankings, Taylor is viewed as a four-star prospect, ranked as high as No. 78 by On3 and No. 115 by 247Sports, which also lists him as the No. 47 shooting guard. He holds an 86 rating in the 247Sports system.

From Kansas’s perspective, the visit comes at an extremely important time. The team currently projects to have just seven returning players, leaving eight open roster spots, with five players already in the transfer portal, including Jamari McDowell, Flory Bidunga, Elmarko Jackson, Paul Mbiya, and Bryson Tiller. Taylor, who has two years of eligibility remaining, is a go-to target as the Jayhawks look to rebuild their roster.
