Jordan Clarkson’s ‘amazing’ message to Dylan Harper ahead of Knicks-Spurs NBA Finals

When Jordan Clarkson chose to sign with the New York Knicks in the offseason, he said he wanted to feel the energy of the fans cheering for him at Madison Square Garden.

He has experienced that and more, as he helped the Knicks reach the NBA Finals in what has been an inspired run.

Now, not only will New Yorkers support Clarkson, but millions of Filipinos will also root for the Knicks to win the NBA title. They, however, might be torn, as Dylan Harper is on the San Antonio Spurs. Both guards have Filipino roots.

The 33-year-old Clarkson has always been proud of representing the Philippines, his mother’s home country. But doing it with Harper on basketball’s biggest stage feels extra special for the veteran scorer.

“(It’s) another amazing thing that’s happening right now. Definitely inspiring to the Filipino-Americans and Filipinos all around the country. It’s definitely going to be fun to watch,” said Clarkson in a media conference on Tuesday.

The former Sixth Man of the Year admitted that he has been keeping tabs on Harper, who is having a phenomenal stint in the playoffs.

“(Harper has) been really good throughout the whole year. I’ve been watching him, keeping up with him, as well. Him being so young and having so much poise throughout this whole playoffs, it’s a great sight to see a young star coming in this league and doing what he’s doing. One of us (will be) taking a championship back home to the Philippines and representing that well,” added Clarkson.

Clarkson played for the Philippines in the 2023 FIBA World Cup and the 2018 Asian Games in Indonesia.

The 20-year-old Harper, whose mother is Filipina, said he is “blessed” to be playing in the NBA Finals with Clarkson.

Clarkson and Harper may be on opposing teams trying to destroy each other, but they will always share a deep kinship because of their Filipino lineage, further proving that basketball is a global sport.
