John Harbaugh gets Tom Coughlin praise from Victor Cruz ahead of training camp

The New York Giants seem to be feeling optimistic about the 2026 season. New York is entering a new era with John Harbaugh at head coach. The excitement around that decision has been the biggest storyline around the Giants this offseason. One former Giants player explained why he is thrilled with the move.

Former Giants wide receiver Victor Cruz gave a ringing endorsement of the Harbaugh hire during a recent interview.

“I love it, man. I think it was all continuing to bring the pedigree and the character of this football team back to the forefront,” Cruz said on Monday via a video interview with Yahoo Sports Daily. “And I love (former head coach Brian) Daboll, I love some of the other coaches that we’ve had. They were all good guys, but I think John Harbaugh immediately comes in and brings a certain pedigree and a certain character level to your team that we hadn’t had before, since Coach (Tom) Coughlin, in my opinion.”

Comparing Harbaugh to Coughlin is a big deal in New York. Coughlin coached the Giants for 12 years and led the team to a 102-90 record during that span. He also won two Super Bowls in New York in 2007 and 2011.

That’s just how confident Cruz is in Harbaugh’s abilities.

Cruz explained that Harbaugh comes with a winning pedigree that should inspire anyone within the organization.

“As soon as a guy comes in with that winning pedigree, he’s been to the mountaintop, he understands what it takes to win, he knows what it’s like to have a franchise quarterback and how to get them on the right track mentally and get them going,” Cruz added.

The Giants have all the ingredients needed to become a superpower in the NFC. Especially if Jaxson Dart becomes a legit franchise quarterback under Harbaugh’s tutelage.

It will be fascinating to see how the Giants look when training camp kicks off later this month.
