Jets QB Geno Smith has 3rd run-in with police in as many months
For the third time in as many months, Geno Smith was pulled over and had a run-in with police, adding another chapter to the New York Jets quarterback‘s already eventful offseason.
The New York Post reports that Smith was pulled over in Florida on Monday, July 6, 2026, after being accused of going 25 mph over the speed limit near his house in Davie.
He was driving a 2025 silver Aston Martin at the time, which he alleged belonged to his friend, and even the police officer acknowledged that it was a “beautiful car.” However, the cop stated, “Seventy miles an hour, man, that’s too fast for 45.”
When asked to present his driver’s license, he said he didn’t have it. Luckily, he was near his house. The officer took his information down and said that he needs a physical ID on him at all times, to which the Jets quarterback responded, “My bad.” Smith then received two citations. One was for unlawful speed, and the other was for not carrying his license.
Jets quarterback Geno Smith’s recent run-ins with police

As the Post notes, this was not Smith’s first run-in with law enforcement this offseason. In April 2026, he was pulled over for allegedly driving a vehicle (a Rolls-Royce) with improper tags. Then, in June, police questioned him at his house after a woman alleged that he “beat” her during a dispute. The investigation was initially closed. It was later reopened, and the investigation is ongoing.
Smith is heading into his first season back with the Jets. He previously played for Gang Green from 2013 to 2016. He was drafted in the second round of the 2013 NFL Draft out of West Virginia.
After stints with the New York Giants, the Los Angeles Chargers, the Seattle Seahawks, and the Las Vegas Raiders, he is back with the Jets. Hopefully, he has more success than he did in 2025. In 2025, he led the NFL in interceptions (17) while only playing in 15 games.
