The Oklahoma City Thunder will attempt to complete a first-round sweep of the Phoenix Suns on Monday. They’ll remain without second-leading scorer Jalen Williams during the Game 4 matchup.

The Thunder ruled Williams out for the second straight game due to a left hamstring strain. Williams suffered the injury during Oklahoma City’s 121-109 Game 2 victory. He was diagnosed with a Grade 1 strain, something Thunder head coach Mark Daigneault pointed to as a positive development.

“I feel for him because he’s worked hard to get back. But that was a relatively positive development, given the fact that he had the injury,” Daigneault said on Friday. “That could have been a lot worse. We would have to earn our way to get him back with us. In a vacuum, that was positive news for him.”

The Thunder had no issues during Game 3 vs. the Suns with Williams sidelined.

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander scored 43 points on 15-of-18 shooting from the field and 11-of-12 from the free-throw line during a 121-109 victory. Oklahoma City held Suns superstar Devin Booker to 16 points on 6-of-16 shooting during the win.

The Thunder should have no problems closing out their series against the Suns amid Williams’ absence. However, the star guard’s presence could be more essential during an expected second-round matchup with the Los Angeles Lakers, depending on the statuses of Luka Doncic and Austin Reaves.

Reaves is trending towards a second-round return from an oblique injury for Los Angeles. Meanwhile, Doncic recently started moving around the court during workouts as he continues his rehab from a hamstring strain.
